In the summer of 1819, when Beethoven was busy composing the Credo (of the 'Missa solemnis'), he also received repeated requests from one of the seven members of an existing music society, which used to dance in an inn in Briel near Modling (Austria), and wrote a few waltzes for them. Later these Walztzes were together with some Menuetts amd Laendlers published as 'Elf Wiener Taenze '(or 'Modlinger Taenze', WoO 17). Italian arranger Matteo Firmi transcribed 7 of these dances for a Wind Ensemble.
