Roald Dahl's timeless story of the world-famous Candy Man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." With a flexible cast size, a tour-de-force role for the title character, and songs from the classic film as well as new ones, this is right on target for young performers through ninth grade. Songs include Pure Imagination; The Golden Age of Chocolate; The Candy Man; I Eat More!; Think Positive!; I See It All on T.V.; Cheer Up, Charlie; Golden Ticket; At the Gates; In This Room; Oompa-Loompa-Doompadee-Doo; Burping Song; There's No Knowing; Chew It and I Want It Now! Each sampler includes a student script.
Though both musicals are based on the classic Roald Dahl story, Willy Wonka Jr. and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Jr. are two very different shows. While both shows include the well-known songs Candy Man; I've Got a Golden Ticket; Oompa Loompa and Pure Imagination, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Jr. has a reimagined score, 18 roles plus ensemble, and the book is a much closer adaptation to the original novel. For 24 roles plus ensemble, Willy Wonka Jr.'s music and lyrics are by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and feature many of the songs made famous by the same duo for the 1971 film "Willy Wonka the Chocolate Factory."
