World Playground

World Playground introduces children to the joys of music from twelve different cultures. It has won a number of awards, including the "Gold Award" from National Parenting Publications, the Parents' Choice "Silver Award," the ALA Notable Children's Recording award, and "Best of '99" Scholastic Parent and Child. Parents and families can enjoy the CD at home or daycare, or classroom teachers can use the Curriculum Kit to design a multicultural unit that's out of this world! The kit includes the CD, a map, a teacher's guide, and two passports. Cultural and historical information for each of the twelve songs is provided, along with movement, music, and art activities with cross-curricular extension ideas. Students can chronicle their journey with the optional student passport journals, where they cut, color, and paste reproducible artwork pertaining to each country. Use the activities in the classroom, or culminate the unit with a presentation using the songs as a sing along (reproducible song lyrics are included) with homemade instruments and costumes. It's a cross-curricular extravaganza that your students will never forget!
