Cuban dance traditions come alive in this medium-level concert band medley that moves through striking contrasts of tempo, texture, and style. A low flute or optional alto flute solo opens the work before launching into fast, syncopated dances built on a 2/3 son clave pattern. Featured percussion breaks, an emotional slow section, and extensive Latin percussion make it an engaging way to teach authentic rhythm and ensemble coordination at the high school level.
