When the moon appears orange or yellow, it simply means that the observer is looking at it through more layers of the atmosphere. This lyrical composition set in the easily accomplishable key of concert B flat uses multiple musical layers to create an aural impression of the moon's visual appearance. Using gentle percussion and small dissonant moments, this is the perfect piece to teach rubato phrase shaping and the concepts of minor tempo variations to help create a mood. There are no extreme range challenges, so performers can concentrate on creating emotional moments with a beautiful performance. Great as a contrasting selection or as a contest ballad.
