A version for three solo guitars of the "Zarabanda for Guitar and Chamber Orchestra." Although the notes for the two versions are virtually the same (there are a few differences), this version for three guitars is much easier than the solo version which must incorporate all three solo lines into one polyphonic part. Ideal for a guitar teacher instructing a guitar class in ensemble performance. The Zarabanda (named for the Guatamalan beaked flute) was a sensuous, even erotic, dance performed by a woman singing a suggestive text and accompanying herself on the castanets. Its erotic nature caused it to be banned by Spain in the 1500s, the penalty for its being 200 lashes, with men sentences to six years service on a galley, and women being exiled. Despite this, it continued to flourish, changing through time to eventually become the stately and dignified processional dance, the Sarabande, of the court of Louis XIV of France, and Charles I of England, and a regular member of the Baroque Suite of instrumental music.
