Edited by John M. Laverty. British composer Alice Mary Smith was in her early 20's when she wrote her first major work, Symphony in C minor. Despite the many challenges faced by a female composer in Victorian era Great Britain, Smith's composition received a high level of praise from the British press following the work's premiere by the Musical Society of London in 1863. Despite this early praise, Smith never received the long-term recognition her talents deserved. Due to a number of factors, her orchestral compositions were not even published until the early 2000s. This edition is based entirely on Smith's original manuscript. The edition is highly edited including an update to modern instrumentation and the addition of missing/inconsistent dynamics and articulations. The original hand-written manuscript contains many additional markings in pencil (also included in this edition), apparently added after the inked manuscript was complete. Irish Tune from County Derry

Edited by John M. Laverty. This modern edition of Histoire du Soldat is based entirely on the original 1924 publication, with several revisions. The libretto found in the 1924 publication as well as subsequent publications is not included. The reason is to provide a score free of the clutter the libretto causes, giving a conductor a score that is intended to make the task of performing the piece a less daunting task. The original Ramuz libretto in French as well as translations is readily available from other sources. One addition to the parts is a cornet part in C. The original cornet part has movements in A or B-flat, requiring the player to transpose the part depending on key of the instrument chosen for the performance. Most often a C cornet or a C trumpet is the instrument of choice, thus the part in C. The percussion part has been rescored in order to provide a more logical and decipherable part for the player.
