The theme is about our emerging purposes in a season where women, who have been traditionally undervalued, are being rightly recognized and brought forth. Just like our purpose emerges, fragments of the hymn emerge in this work and are nurtured and developed. They grow into the full-blown melody of the hymn, "Purpose," in all its triumph. "It was on my heart to write with Tennessee women in mind. The motifs were gleaned from my childhood favorite hymn tune, "Purpose," by Martin F. Shaw. Shaw himself was an advocate for women in the church.
