From Peril to Peace to Joy

This medley of three tone poems was written specifically in honor of the Handbell Ringers of Japan to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Musically, the work is true to the title. The 'Peril' section is quite dramatic, beginning with an 8-measure, ominous mallet roll starting in the low bass. The main themes are filled with energy and end this section with a dramatic chord. 'Peace' is introduced on handchimes leading into a lovely melodic section which includes rainsticks. 'Joy' then follows with a simple melody which is beautifully developed to the end.
