As Vesta was from Latmos Hill Descending is a six-part madrigal by Thomas Weelkes (c. 1575 1623), one of Englands finest composers. Adapted for SSATTB recorders from a facsimile of Madrigals: The Triumphs of Oriana (1601) which honors Queen Elizabeth I. The goddess Vesta descends a hill and spots the maiden Queen ascending; Vestas entourage leaves her to entertain the Queen and sing her praises. Score and individual parts, plus notes with lyrics. A great example of word painting, this madrigal is enjoyable to play and is appreciated by audiences. Good for ensembles, recorder orchestras, workshops, and recorder society meetings.
