'Be Thou My Vision' is a traditional Christian hymn of Irish origin. Its
text, translated into English by Eleanor Hull in 1912, is often attributed to
six-century poet Dallin Forgaill, and the music to which these words are
set is a traditional Irish folk tune called Slane.
The arranger, Andrew E. Lawson writes, iFrom the rich lyrics, to the
hauntingly beautiful melody, this hymn has been one of my personal favorites
for many years. This arrangement for brass quintet was commissioned by two
dear friends of mine, Fernando and Rebecca Rosales, and was performed at
their wedding ceremony during a Unity Candle lighting.i
The flexible instrumentation means the work can be performed by a variety
of different ensembles.
