This amazing piece reminiscent of early American folk music is filled with exciting rhythm and energy, including a melody that will stay with you after this toe-tapping work has ended. The composer writes, "Ciderkin was a diluted yet still alcoholic version of cider served to children in early America. Finding this tidbit of history on the cusp of my 21st birthday intrigued me and I immediately thought there was a song there. It turns out there was!" Filled with syncopation emphasized by ring touches, malleted notes, and marts, it moves along at a jaunty pace. Inclusion of handchimes in the treble and doubling of bass bells with low bass handchimes adds texture, tone, and a great foundation for the merriment happening in the higher treble! There is much dynamic expression, key changes to tantalize and excite the ear, and well-placed shakes which all combine to move this fun work forward to the rollicking, frolicking finish! This is definitely a piece for your bronze group to include in their concert repertoire!
