The original composer of “Somewhere A Cow Is Bawling” was actually the very well-known and prolific Charles Lloyd Barnhouse (1865-1929), composer and publisher. He also wrote under the pseudonyms “Jim Fisk” and “A.M. Laurens”. As Jim Fisk, he wrote 2 other pieces, both of the ragtime genre: “Ridin’ de Goat”, 1919, a trombone smear; and “Tearemloose”, 1922, another “trombone symfunny”. This light, humorous "symfunny" has been expertly arranged and re-scored for symphonic band by Casimir V. Bork Jr. It is a great addition to any concert and can serve as a wonderful feature for your trombone section. Its quick, rhythmic passages will certainly keep your low brass members on their toes!
