Son Colorés is a part of a series of advanced contemporary works . It start off with the tour de force Scherzo de Couleurs whose virtuosic figures are filled with colorful surprises as the piece unfolds. The opening section in 3/4 melodically climbs higher and higher reaching for new heights which is contrasted with grace note arpeggio figures. The middle section settles down briefly with a left hand ostinato before being interrupted with various tempo shifts and reflections on opening figures. The ostinato and calm tempo returns briefly before undergoing a shift to a quicker tempo as melodic figures grow more grand leading up to the return of the opening theme. A Tranquil closing to the work includes use of the sostenuto pedal allowing the performer expand the texture of the music from lower register to its upper register of the piano. Rainbows and Prisms continue the colorful exploration in sound of the piano. Expansive use of tessitura and shifting tempos can be found throughout both pieces . Jane's poem speaks to its inspiration in sound for Rainbows. Raindrops glistening in the sunlit sky. Rainbows suddenly appear on high. At the rainbows end - a pot of gold, filled with peace and joy for all to behold. Prisms, inspired from a scene from the 1960 movie Pollyana, received recognition with an honorable mention in the 1987 National Federation of Music Clubs Adult Composers Contest. These works composed over a wide range of time are being made available for the first time as a part of the Jane Hergo Concert Series.
