For Soprano, Tenor, Violin, Violoncello, Piano. An inspirational set of "musical portraits" illustrating Biblical events leading up and following the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Although Scripture is unchangeable, its effects are expressed in varying ways by composers, artists, and writers. This set begins with The Prophecy in Hebrew "scale", and morphs through modal, whole tone, Baroque counterpoint, contemporary rock/jazz, and stark dissonance, using motifs that surface throughout to connect them to the basis of the story and mindset. The Portraits can be performed in concert-length theatrical-style, or they may be used independently or in modules. The Portraits are explained in the Program Notes, along with corresponding Scripture. The MP3 illustrates some of the themes that recur throughout: The Prophecy--mm.21-36; The Triumphal Entry--mm.1-72; Gethsemane--mm. 11-121; The Great Commission--mm.8-21 and 41-53.
