A Walk Across the Walnut

The Walnut Street Bridge is a "must-see" spot in Chattanooga, TN. This piece is a work in three continuous movements depicting three moods regarding the Walnut Street Bridge and the Tennessee River it soars over. The first is the joyous energy in going for a walk through downtown Chattanooga, crossing the bridge that connects the two sides of the city. The sights and sounds of the trip -- street musicians, vendors, people talking, etc. -- all speak to the vibrant energy of the city. The second movement illustrates the grandness of both the bridge and the mighty Tennessee river as it cuts a meandering path through the city and around Lookout Mountain to the south. The movement starts sweetly as the water slides calmly by, but as you look further along the river you realize the majesty of this great moving body. And as the eye continues along the shores one sees the industry made possible by the river. This third movement describes the hard work and productivity of those who owe their livelihoods to the Tennessee River.
