Appel des negres aux Francais

Un brano in francese del compositore spagnolo Fernando Sor, in genere più conosciuto per la sua musica per chitarra sola del primo romanticismo. Il riferimento del testo all'indipendenza della Grecia permette di datare la composizione intorno al 1832. Il tema dell'abolizione della schiavitù era molto dibattuto in Europa tra fine '700 e primi decenni dell'800, considerando in particolare che la Francia l'aveva abolita nel 1794, ma Napoleone l'aveva reintrodotta pochi anni dopo. E' interessante vedere come Sor prende posizione netta all'interno del movimento abolizionista. Allo stesso tempo è da notare il carattere eroico e stilisticamente da "marcia militare" del brano, visto che è un appello ai soldati francesi. The topic of the abolition of slavery was hotly debated in Europe between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, especially considering that France had abolished it in 1794, but Napoleon reintroduced it a few years later. It's interesting to see how Sor took a clear stance within the abolitionist movement.
