Battle Cry of Freedom was written about the Civil War in 1862 by American Composer George Frederick Root. There are two versions of lyrics associated with the original tune, one for the Union and one for the Confederates. The original lyrics being "Yes we'll rally round the flag, boys, we'll rally once again, Shouting the battle cry of freedom!" The piece was even adapted for the presidential election in 1864 supporting Lincoln and Johnson. This rousing arrangement was adapted to a traditional march style, but given a more modern feel without going too outside the box. It is sure to please this concert season!
