Largely forgotten today, Joachim Raff (1822-1882), was a prolific and well known German-Swiss composer. The Cavatine was one of six short pieces written as a set for violin and piano, and is the only one of the six frequently performed today. The version here maintains the original key of D major and utilizes the singing, above the staff register of the bass tuba. The transcription would also work nicely on the euphonium.
