Choralenti is a vocal work for choir from six voices: 2 Sopranis, 2 Alti or Mezzos, 2 Tenors and Bass ad lib. ; each music stand can accommodate additional singers.
Written in homage to the Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt, the work blurs the listener's relationship to time by working on the tiling of voices outside the notion of pulsation. Through these tiles, the tonal writing is saturated with delays and enrichments of chords opening up different perspectives of interpretation of the harmonic discourse. Furthermore, the vocalizations sculpt the harmonic space by asking each chorister to gently modulate their phonemes in their own time, creating the echo of a second distant choir.
