Close to Home

Here is a deeply emotional, gorgeous ballad from the self-titled album Lyle Mays. It begins with a written piano solo and moves into a lush ensemble setting. There is a short, improvised Tenor solo before the full band begins to build to a strong apex. The arrangement then closes with a pensive, quiet piano solo ending. Woodwind doubles include two flutes, clarinet and bass clarinet. For five saxes/woodwinds, five trumpets, five trombones, and rhythm section.
