The first movement of Vivaldi’s *La Stravaganza*, Op. 4, No. 11, is packed with the rhythmic energy, dramatic contrasts, and irresistible forward motion that make the fast movements of his concertos so exciting. This arrangement brings that unmistakable “Vivaldi drive” to the medium-level school orchestra, with lively call-and-response passages and engaging musical exchanges throughout the ensemble. It is an excellent opportunity to introduce students to repertoire beyond Vivaldi’s more familiar works while still giving them the musical experience they love about his music. The concerto’s solo violin material has been thoughtfully incorporated throughout the orchestra: the original solo violin line is featured in the first violins, while the first violin solo passages are incorporated into the second violin part, giving more players the opportunity to take on prominent musical material. Technically demanding passages have been carefully adapted for accessibility while preserving the energy, momentum, and character of Vivaldi’s original writing. The result is a spirited and rewarding arrangement that deserves a place in the repertoire of developing string orchestras.
