This tenor saxophone concerto follows an arc of climate disaster and renewal through a simple lens: shore birds. We begin with an unspoiled image of the shore before industrial intervention, built on the song of the red-winged blackbird; then we follow the cycle of human error that never self-corrects until the weight of its shortsightedness is too grave to ignore. The last movement is hopeful, depicting a not-so-distant future in which the watershed flourishes again in earnest, an intentional and thoughtful equilibrium, reviving the songs of native birds.
