El Relampago is a folk song from Mexico. It is very popular among folkloric dancers and folk groups. Ruben Fuentes in collaboration with Silvestre Vargas arranged this song for their "Sones de Jalisco" LP. I heard the folkloric version by a visiting folk group (Los Chicahaustles) while I was in college. While the group was staying at the college for a South Texas tour, my mariachi and members of the folk group had a "palomazo" or jam session. We learned a lot from each other, and we even played some serenades around the college together. Several of the members have been friends. This arrangement is for beginner mariachi. An optional easy violin part is included, as well as an advanced armonia part that contains redobles. I chose not to include contra-tiempos on this arrangement as to not add a layer of difficulty to this piece. If you would like to add it, that would be your preference. I hope you and your students enjoy playing "El Relampago".
