Four Christmas Motets

These four motets create a fresh approach to well-known ancient texts. They may be sung either as a complete set or individually within a carol service or other liturgical setting. Virga Jesse calls for an atmosphere of timelessness and deep prayer with hushed "alleluias." Puer Natus is an announcement to the world of the life-changing news of Christ's birth. Nesciens Mater pays homage to great Renaissance composers. Gaudete Omnes has an opening fanfare with subsequent syncopated rhythms and agile melodic elements of the motet passing freely between the voices, creating a sense of dialogue.
