The short, beautiful poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is given a magnified setting for six-part unaccompanied voices. With fluid lines and enriching harmonies, this work is a masterful illustration of bringing poetry to life with painting a musical picture, with voices depicting gently-blowing wind and swirling snow (among other aspects) on the mountaintop. A polyrhythmic middle section creates quite the challenge for even the most advanced of scholastic choral ensembles. Perfect for state music festivals and general concerts for intermediate-advanced high school, collegiate, and community ensembles.
