The lyrics were translated by John Mason Neale in the eighteenth century. The origin of the music is unknown. This easy three-part arrangement features the melody in Part III (cambiatas) accompanied by angelic voices, Parts I & II (trebles) proclaiming "Noel." The keyboard accompaniment simulates church bells. The delicate sound of the finger cymbals add a delightful rhythmic emphasis.
