Louise Farrenc (1804-1875) was a French composer, virtuoso pianist and teacher. Born Jeanne-Louise Dumont in Paris, she was the daughter of Jacques-Edme Dumont, a successful sculptor, and sister to Auguste Dumont.
During the 1820s and 1830s, she composed exclusively for the piano but became best know for her chamber works.
She enjoyed considerable fame in her time and was appointed to a permanent position of Professor of Piano at the Paris Conservatory where she taught for 30 years.
Her music is quite pleasant to listen to. In her time Beethoven was the major musical influence and her music was greatly overlook until recent years. It is certainly well work hearing.
