Venus, the Bringer of Peace is the second movement in Gustave Holst's the
Planets. A suite of music that includes a movement for most of the planets in
our solar system. Its counterpart Mars, which is the first movement in the
suite, is the bringer of war. Mars is a cacophonous movement, so Holst
created Venus to be a moment of serenity for the audience before moving on.
In Roman mythology, Venus is the goddess of prosperity. This movement is
traditionally played by professional orchestras so I decided to make a
version for band that was true to the original piece.
