Intermezzo

This cello solo features 9|8 meter, three beats of three pulses each, a strong driving force in music. It is about five minutes long. The form is three parts: A-B-A. The A parts are in 9|8 time and vigorous in mood. The middle part is in 3|4 (triple meter with duple subdivisions), slightly slower and more lyrical. Only standard bowing and pizzicato is employed. The Intermezzo was performed on YouTube in 2020 by Ovidiu Marinescu. It is an attractive solo which is accessible and engaging to the chamber music audience.
