I recently "discovered" this song among papers from my first Music Composition class at the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, IL. The song is based on the poem "Into My Heart An Air That Kills" by A. E. Housman and had been written fifty years ago. Recently, I made a number of revisions to the original composition but attempted to keep the music uncomplicated so that the text clearly speaks. The poem suggests someone who looks back with longing at happier days of youth, realizing there is no way to return to that wonderful time of their life.
