This Charlie Hill original is patterned after Bennie Moten's Moten Swing, which became a standard part of the Basie Band's book. It is also featured as the opening chart in Dick Dunscomb's jazz curriculum Jazz Zone...The Beginning. It's a medium tempo swinger that highlights the full ensemble with short suggested or improvised solos for tenor 1, baritone sax, trumpet 2, and trombone 2. Optional parts are included for flute, clarinet, horn in F and tuba. Shine the spotlight on your young jazz band and soloists!
