Keystone Cups

A rousing full ensemble intro, complete with drum solos, leads to a four bar, walking, written bass solo that sets up the trumpet section bebop melody, based on "rhythm changes." As per the title, the trumpets are in cup mutes for this clever feature. The drummer also has the option to switch to brushes in this section before switching back to sticks for the rest of the chart. An open solo space allows for numerous soloists with cued backgrounds. An additional feature is outstanding sax section writing. The shout chorus begins with a horns only "stop time" section that builds through the bridge to a flag waving finale!
