Lament

This work marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Poignant in tone, it begins with groups of woodwinds and then brass. The second section is also dark, but the combination with movement in the percussion section is very effective. The climactic moment is a full-band setting of the hymn tune A Mighty Fortress before a haunting ending.
