L'istesso Tempo

"...this is absurdly brilliant....from Mozart to Maslanka!" - Dr. Colby Swails, Midland Community Ensemble, Midland, TX "L'istesso Tempo" ("the same tempo as before") is inspired by a wide variety of musical sources, but the main idea was to combine them all in an amusing and surprising way. Originally composed for concert band and premiered in Midland, TX, I wanted to bring it even closer to its early Classical and Baroque roots by recasting it as a concerto grosso with solo parts in every section--even the bass has a few juicy solo bits. The piece is to be played in strict tempo, especially the last measure in which the solo violinist doesn't seem to understand that the piece has ended.
