Lover Man

This is a beautiful arrangement by Bill Holman that features alto saxophone throughout. Set as a straight-eighth ballad, this chart was originally written for Charlie Parker to perform with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, but it was eventually recorded with Lee Konitz. The ensemble writing is very playable with no range concerns in the brass. If you want to feature an outstanding alto sax student or a guest artist (the solo is mostly chord symbols), this is an easy tune to put together with your band and will be a spectacular addition to any concert program.
