Moonlight

Moonlight was inspired by my marimba etude of the same name. The etude comes from my book Soundscapes: Concert Etudes for Marimba. The music takes the listener on a journey through soundscapes of the night - sounds that accompany an idea or place. Three main themes are heard throughout the piece. A long lyrical line first introduced in the bells, a mysterious melody introduced in the vibraphone, and a fast paced exciting theme first heard from the marimbas. Moonlight should convey the excitement and mysteriousness of the night, and the beauty of moonlight shining through the clouds. The music ends with a section titled Dawn. The moon has set and the sun begins to rise.
