Rolling Thunder is a circus march written by Fillmore in 1918. Fillmore an aficionado of circus music and himself a former trombone player in a few circus bands wrote this one of his most challenging marches for trombone. Played at circus tempo (160 beats per minute) the trombones will fly through the air with the greatest of ease just like their woodwind counterparts but at a lower elevation. But while the woodwinds can slur their notes the trombones have to tongue and articulate theirs. The trombones do come to the fore in Rolling Thunder and when they do step aside!
