For generations poets and musicians have been writing about the sea. Sea Fever is a setting of a poem written by John Masefield (1878-1967) in which he shares his longing to go down to the seas again and describes why the seas are drawing him there. Leonard Van Camp (for years Director of Choral Activities at Southern Illinois University) sets the poem in homophonic style to be sung acappella. It is written in variable voicing and may be sung by choristers of all ages, and especially by young singers whose voices are changing since it is written with limited ranges and tessitura. It may be sung by mixed and all-male groups as well.
