A setting of the tune, BETHANY, by Lowell Mason (1792-1872). He wrote the tune expressly for this text and published it in 1859 in Sabbath Hymn and Tune Book. This setting is introspective but does allow the soloist to share a wide range of expression. There are three versions: A. for low instruments, B. for Bb treble instruments, and C. for C treble instruments. The same accompaniment works with any of the solo parts.
