Ship Island Excursion depicts an early morning trip to Ship Island, a barrier Island 12 miles off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The opening has us in a tranquil mood, arriving at the port just after sunrise to board the boat for our trip. Then our journey begins with an exciting journey across the water with accents and syncopated rhythms. Along the way you may encounter some fish jumping in water in a short, playful woodwind section. The percussion brings us back to a recap of the fast section and into an augmented version of the melody in the low brass. This leads us to an exciting conclusion where we arrive at our destination for a day of fun in the sun. An exciting piece for a concert or festival.
