Sight Reading Exercises

The goal of this sight reading book is to offer young band students and band directors the opportunity to learn ensemble sight reading skills in a progressive environment. All selections are written as a full band sight reading selection would be scored, however this book begins with short, simplistic studies with a restricted amount of rhythms, key signatures, time signatures, and other elements. Students are then slowly introduced to longer, more difficult studies over a gradual period of time. By the end of this book, young bands will have been exposed to many of the elements that traditionally appear in sight reading evaluations and competitions. This book is directly tied to the UIL Texas Sight Reading standards as of the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year. With chapter guides and reviews included for the director, this book is an ideal tool to support band directors and students as a primary sight reading curriculum.
