Sinfonia in D Major

This arrangement presents the first movement of Stamitz’s *Sinfonia in D Major*, WoIS I: D-21, with the original musical character and technical demands largely preserved. Unlike a simplified or “watered-down” adaptation, this edition remains faithful to Stamitz’s writing, making it an excellent introduction to the energetic Classical-era style and articulation that characterize his orchestral music. The first violin part provides an especially valuable workout for the right hand, with frequent opportunities to develop controlled bow strokes, articulation, and dynamic flexibility. The movement is also rich in opportunities for expressive dynamic shaping, particularly through its many crescendos and transitions. These passages encourage young players to think beyond simply playing the notes and instead develop a more responsive bow arm, purposeful phrasing, and an awareness of how individual lines contribute to the larger orchestral texture. This is a challenging and rewarding selection for developing string orchestras looking to take on authentic Classical repertoire.
