A flurry of sixteenth notes divided between the hands forms the opening motif and flows in a descending manner like snow flakes falling from the sky. Gusts of wind reflect the skittish nature of the snow flakes that dip and rise in the left hand melody against arpeggiated triads in the right hand. Like a sudden strong blast of wind, bursts of flowing grace note figures are followed by punctuated clusters of notes of the opening theme. The slower middle section continues with grace notes that interrupt floating chords rising and falling over a left hand trill. After another burst, a one-bar ostinato forms in the left hand as rising and falling chords, grace notes and repetitive triplet motif continue to impede each other as the music builds to a return of the faster opening theme. Snow Swirls is a part of the advanced works of the Jane Hergo Concert Series and was a winning composition in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs Adult Composition Contest in 2017. It can be purchased individually or as a part of the book Atmospheric Sketches.
