Solitude

"Solitude" is a 2-part ballad composed for beginning jazz band programs with limited instrumentation, yet it includes parts for all the instruments found in a young and eager beginning band program. The piece is intended to introduce musicians to the fundamental elements of playing in a ballad style. Because today's modern beginning jazz bands often include non-traditional jazz band instruments, to ensure everyone can participate, this piece is flexible in that it functions perfectly as a stand-alone jazz ensemble work or as a flexible jazz band arrangement. Below are the instrument doublings: • Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Mallets • Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trombone, Baritone TC and Baritone BC.
