Train, for string orchestra (+ optional drum set), is inspired by Billy Strayhorn's Swing Era masterpiece Take the "A" Train. No improvisation required, but every section has its chance to be featured in this medium swing toe-tapper which is evocative of the famous Duke Ellington Orchestra's theme song! Composed in D-Major, this grade 3 piece expands the harmonic palette without overwhelming young musicians. Suggested fingerings are included in select passages to ease the exploration into a less familiar genre. A Cello 2 (transcribed bass) part is included as an option if bass section support or replacement is needed.
