TALKBACK, for Brass Quintet and Vibraphone by Liz Nedela Harmonic structure: uses jazz-style chords; quartal harmony, 2nds, 7ths. Rhythmic structure: shifts often, a feeling of being improvised. Form: somewhat ABA; fast, slow, fast - with variations of tempo. Voices: continual discussion; Light-Hearted Conflict-Resolution. Vibraphone: Main SpeakerTuba: "grounding effect" Trumpets: Discussing ideas Trombone-Horn: Interjecting comments Slow Down section - Horn: Supreme Voice of Reason Thoughts introduced and carried by the Vibraphone Interjections and Discussion by all Ending: Calm Resolution. For Now. A Question/Answer dialog among the instruments in somewhat light-hearted interpretation of current events (perhaps a political debate); i.e. a statement is made, with an immediate answer (as though someone is finishing the sentence). A fun piece to play for for audience -- who hum the catchy themes continually after hearing/playing them. Mp3 is of computer notation.
