THE GREEN AND THE GOLD is a concert march that was commissioned by the
North Hunterdon Music Association (NJ) for Mr. Vincent Angeline, North
Hunterdon High School band director of 30 years, in honor of his retirement.
As Mr. Angeline was an avid fan of John Philip Sousa, hints of several of his
best 6/8 marches are stylistically present within the piece, such as The
Washington Post, Semper Fidelis, and The Liberty Bell. The trio is written
around one of Mr. Angeline's favorite songs, the widely popular Funiculi,
Funicula. This work was written to honor the musical passion that Mr.
Angeline instilled in his students. It is about the love of music- which is what band is
all about! Be sure to program this new march to motivate and inspire your
band students this spring!
