The Jingle King is an approachable piece of Christmas sheet music that
only uses seven pitches. The piece is based off of the Christmas carols Good
King Wenceslas and Jingle Bells.
The piece begins with an accented fanfare that quotes the beginning of Good
King Wenceslas. Two measures later, the music drops to mezzo piano before
growing back to forte two measures later. Make these changes in dynamics and
articulations very clear. The melody to Jingle Bells begins at measure 13 and
is passed around the band. When rehearsing this piece, make sure that all
melody parts are strongly performed.
The B section starts at measure 29, which is based off Good King Wenceslas.
Like the beginning of the piece, the melody is passed around different
sections of the band. At measure 45, the piece begins to transition back to
the A section and back to Jingle Bells. The return of the Jingle Bells melody
occurs at measure 49 and is performed at forte in the full band.
