Three Greek Dances

These three dances are stylized by preserving the flavor of the dances while treating the material in a more developmental, contrapuntal manner. Kalamationos is the most popular Greek dance,is Peloponnesian in origin and is in 7/8 meter grouped as 3-2-2. Zeibekiko, with its origin in the Eastern Aegean Islands, is in 9/4 meter at a slow tempo with a lot of syncopation. Hassapikos is a butcher's dance in 2/4 time with eight measure phrases.
